Children of Light
In the book of the prophet Isaiah, we see how the people of Jerusalem felt like prisoners of the darkness of the world around them, as well as of their own sin:
"Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not reach us. We wait for light, but behold, there is only darkness; we wait for brightness, but we walk in gloom." (Isaiah 59:9)
But then, the prophet Isaiah calls them to something greater. He calls them to truth.
"Arise! Shine! For your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness covers the earth, and thick darkness the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you, and His glory appears over you." (Isaiah 60:1-2)
And you are called to something greater. You are not a prisoner of darkness. The true light of this world came down and lived a human life, and then gave His life for you. The darkness of this world may seem overwhelming. The darkness in which we sometimes participate may seem attractive. You may feel unfit to shine the light of Christ. And this is where the enemy wants you to stay! This is the darkness from which those in the book of the prophet Isaiah felt trapped. But then we see Isaiah telling the people to arise and shine.
My dear, I'm telling you right now, "You, arise! Let your light shine for all to see. For the glory of the Lord rises upon you."
Fix your gaze on Jesus and let Him change your perspective on things. He is the author and creator of all things, and He wants you to see things as they are: already defeated by the Light of the World.
It is time to arise and shine. It's time to stop living in the enemy's lies and start living in the truth of God's Word. It's time to stop trying to shine the light on ourselves, and let it shine for Christ. It is time for you to shine the light of Christ so that the whole world may see and know the glory of God. My dear, you can do this.
Arise and shine.
Lord, I want Your light to shine in me and through me. Remind me every day of the truth that You are greater than any darkness! Amen.
